A true-life story of hope and the power of creativity & imagination.
“When I was a child I had a brain injury. The story starts in the hospital where I hear a knocking on the door. When I open it there stands an elephant who takes me on a journey of healing & recovery. He invites me on an adventure to meet all my other animals and they teach me that the scars that cover my head can be seen in a different way because they are now sutured with a black panther’s whisker and held by a dragonfly. This reframed my understanding of my trauma. The show ends with a short Mindfulness meditation where I introduce the children to the Animals at their Heart.”

‘A true-life story of hope and the power of creativity and imagination’
“I had a normal childhood until I was nine years old. That was when my life changed dramatically. I had stroke or a brain haemorrhage.
Yet this turned out to be the start of another adventure for me. It led me to Steven Gallgegos’ work. He is a reknowned American psychologist who teaches the use of animal imagery to deepen one’s relationship with one’s inner self.
It was here I was introduced to the Animal of My Heart, an elephant. He took me on an inner journey to meet all my other animals. They teach me that the scars that criss-cross my head can be seen in a different way because now they are sutured with a black panther’s whisker and held by a dragonfly. This reframed my understanding of my trauma.
‘The Animal of My Heart’ show is unusual. It mixes storytelling and Mindfulness. Initially the audience of kids are taken on my first journey with the Animal of My Heart. Then, at the end of the show they are introduced in a Mindfulness visualization to the Animal at their Heart. They leave the theatre with an inner friend that they can visit whenever they wish.”
